Best Way to Find A Plumber

You know you need plumbing help when you hear drip... drip... drip... in the middle of the night. It's definitely not the time you want to call a plumber out at midnight if you want to save some money.

Plumbing stuff happens! But being prepared to tackle a problem and learning to keep your plumbing in top shape now saves money in the future.

Need to find a plumber? The best way is by word of mouth. Find out who your friends and neighbors recommend. Find plumbers in your area and get estimates. Also research the featured plumbers directory to help find a plumber.

When choosing a plumber, it's a good idea to check with your state's contractor's license board to research appropriate licensing requirements and check the contractor's license. Usually this can be done quickly online. This will help you, the homeowner, to make good decisions when searching for the right person for the job. There are many good plumbers out there and you need to find the one who can help you best. Price isn't always the deciding factor. Quality work and service are important.

Of course, you can choose someone without a license, but why would you? You will not be protected if something goes wrong. They may not be around later if your problem needs fixed again. So do yourself a favor and make sure you have a qualified, licensed plumber to help you out.

10 Things To Do When You Find A Plumber or Contractor :

  • Make sure the plumber has a contractor's state license (different from a business license).
  • Check with the state license board to make sure it is valid.
  • Request estimates from at least three different companies.
  • Check references and prior projects. (Not all online reviews can be trusted. They can be manipulated.) Ask if they have a letter of recommendation or testimonial from a happy customer.
  • All estimates and contracts need to be in writing and make sure you understand the terms.
  • Ask if the company has the proper insurance, including worker's compensation for it's employees.
  • Ask if they require a drug free workplace.
  • Always get a receipt for all payments made towards a job.
  • Keep all files and receipts in case you need them later.
  • Make final payments when all work has been satisfied. Give the plumber a recommendation if you have had great service!
